Tk 2 lakh each for deceased families: Chunnu

Families of the deceased who were killed in a boiler explosion at a factory in Tongi of Gazipur will get Tk 2 lakh each as compensation, said State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu today.
During his visit to the spot at BSCIC industrial area, Chunnu made the announcement around 1:30pm.
The compensation will be provided from the Workers' Welfare Fund of the Labour ministry, said, Inspector General Syed Ahmed of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, while visiting the spot.

At least 24 people, mostly workers, were killed and 74 injured in the boiler explosion in BSCIC industrial area this morning.

The fire broke out at the plastic packaging factory Tampaco Foils Limited, around 6:15am.

The state minister said that the labour ministry will provide the deceased families with the compensation and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured people.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed condolence at the fire incident.

Earlier, the district administration formed a five-member investigation committee which will submit its report in 15 working days.
Twenty units of firefighters were trying to douse the fire when the report was filed at 3:07pm, report our correspondents covering the incident.
