Housewife commits 'suicide'

A housewife 'committed suicide' at Nazirpur upazila of the district on Monday evening.

The deceased is Sharmin Akhter, 21, wife of Md Alamgir Hossain of Bhaijhora village under the upazila.

Nazirpur Police Station sources said Sharmin hanged herself from a ceiling of her room. On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Anisur Rahman Khan, brother of the deceased, claimed that his sister was hanged after she was murdered.

“Alamgir demanded Tk one lakh from us as dowry after marriage. As we did not pay it, he murdered my sister,” alleged Anisur.

Sharmin's husband and in-laws have gone into hiding.
