Independence Award for 8

The government yesterday announced names of eight eminent personalities for Independence Award 2013 in recognition of their outstanding contributions at national level.
The nominees are: M A Hannan (posthumous), Mohammad Shamsul Haque (posthumous), Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Mohammad Abdul Hamid, freedom fighter Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Lt Col (retd) Kazi Sajjad Ali Jahir Bir Protik, renowned economist Swadesh Ranjan Bose (posthumous), Satya Saha (posthumous) and Dr Mohammad Abdul Hamid Mia.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to the distinguished persons at a function at the city's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on March 25, said an official release.
