Wealth, income soar in 4 years
The annual income and wealth of the immediate past mayors of Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet city corporations and their dependants have increased significantly in last four years and nine months, Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) said yesterday.
During this period, the income of the four former mayors has shot up by 6747.18 percent, noted Sujan, a civil society platform working for good governance.
It revealed the information at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity. The organisation obtained the information from the affidavits of mayoral aspirants submitted to the Election Commission.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Shawkat Hossain Hiron and Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran were mayors to Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet city corporations respectively. The four, backed by the ruling Awami League, are running in this year's city polls for a second term.
On the other hand, BNP favourites Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, Maniruzzaman Moni, Ahsan Habib Kamal and Ariful Haque Chowdhury are contesting the city polls in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet respectively.
