Teacher sued for acid attack on girl

A college teacher has been sued on charge of throwing acid on a girl in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district.
Father of the victim, a resident of Kathail village, filed the case with Kalai Police Station on Wednesday.
The accused, Md Saiful Islam, is a lecturer at Piarapur Technical College in Gaibandha district and son of Md Shajahan Ali of Kalai upazila in Joypurhat.
According to the case, a gang allegedly led by Saiful threw acid on the girl through the window on the night of August 13 when she was asleep in the room of their house.
At this, she sustained severe burn injuries in her face and back, said Md Ramjan Ali, officer in-charge of the police station.
The injured was rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital and then shifted to Birdem Hospital in Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.
Saiful Islam went into hiding after the incident, said the OC.
The acid attack took place as a sequel to a longstanding conflict between Saiful and the father of the girl over a piece of disputed land in the area, he said.
