Talukder Abdul Khaleque announces election manifesto

Outgoing Khulna city mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, running for reelection in the June 15 Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls, yesterday presented his election manifesto, aimed at betterment and completion of unfinished development works.
The Khulna city unit Awami League president, being backed by the ruling 14-party alliance and Sammilita Nagorik Committee, gave the presentation at Khulna Press Club.
Khaleque assured to ensure safe drinking water supply and better sanitation and conservancy management, complete Khulna Wasa's projects, construct roads and parks, prevent drug abuse, improve law and order, preserve historical places and remove waterlogging.
Of the Tk 1,000 crore allocated to KCC, half has been put to use while the other half is being used in ongoing projects, he said.
The committee Chairman Sheikh Razzak Ali, Member Secretary Shah Zahangir Abed, and Co-Chairman Enayet Ali was also spoke at the programme.
The remaining two mayoral aspirants are Moniruzzaman Mony, who recently resigned as BNP Khulna city unit general secretary and is unofficially backed by the BNP-led 18-party alliance, and Jatiya Party (Ershad) Khulna district unit President Shafiqul Islam Modhu.
Besides, 137 persons are contesting for 31 posts of general councillors while another 45 are vying for 10 reserved seats for women.
