No progress in Toki murder case
Santrash Nirmul Toki Mancha, a stage to eliminate terrorism in Narayanganj district, yesterday held a candlelight vigil demanding death penalty for war criminals, a ban on Jamaat-Shibir and arrest of Toki's killers.
They said no headway was made in Toki killing case alleging that police were trying to cover up the murder.
They said the long march programme of Hefajat-e Islam was successful as they made a secret deal with the government, adding that the Hefajat could attack the rally venue of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee as the government made the deal to cling to power.
Narayanganj Sangskritik Jote President Advocate Pradip Ghosh Babu, Nagorik Committee General Secretary Abdur Rahman, and the district unit Communist Party of Bangladesh President Hafizul Islam, were, among others, present at the programme at Central Shaheed Minar in Narayanganj city.
Tanvir Mohammad Toki was found dead on the bank of the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj on March 8, two days after he went missing.
A written complaint was submitted to Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam on Mar 20, accusing seven people, including former lawmaker Shamim Osman and his son Ayon Osman.
