Government primary school teachers postpone hunger strike

Government primary school teachers on Tuesday night postponed their hunger strike till Sunday following primary and mass education ministry's assurance of taking necessary steps.
If their demands are not met by this time, they will boycott all kinds of examination, including the upcoming primary terminal exams, and declare tougher programmes on October 7, said a press release.
Russian nuclear engineering expert team meets DU VC

A nine-member "nuclear engineering expert team" led by Prof Olga Vinogradova, project manager of State Atomic Energy Corporation, Russia called on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office on the campus yesterday.
At the meeting, they stressed the need for exchanging more teachers, students and researchers between the countries and building skilled manpower for "Ruppur Power Plant Project", says a press release.
Youth dies as train runs him over

A youth died as a train ran him over at Jowar Sahara level crossing near Cantonment Railway Station in the capital yesterday.
Masud Rana, 26, was walking on the rail tracks when Kamalapur-bound Silk City Express ran him over around 1:45pm, said Dhaka Railway police
He came to Dhaka two months ago from Rangpur in search of a job.
Three BRTC buses torched in Comilla

Unidentified miscreants set three parked buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) on fire on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Jhagurjuli in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire within half an hour at 1:00am but by then the busses were burnt down, said Comilla fire service officials.

Boy hit by train dies in Ctg

A boy died after a train hit him near Sitakunda Railway Station in Sheikhpara area of Chittagong yesterday morning.
The incident occurred when Alauddin Robin, 12, was playing with his friends near the rail tracks, said his father Robiul Alam.
He was declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said sources at CMCH police camp.
Man killed in road accident

A man was killed in a road accident on Nabinagar-Kaliakaur highway in Polashbari area of Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital, on Tuesday night.
Abdul Maleque, 27, a worker of Bengal Plastic at Ashulia, died after a covered van hit his bicycle.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
College student 'commits suicide'

A college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house at Arapara in Savar municipality yesterday.
Anima Kuddusi Aysha, 20, a first-year student, was found hanging with a rope in the morning by her family, said Savar police.
However, they could not ascertain the reason behind the suicide, police added.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Advance train ticket sale begins in Ctg for Eid

Advance sale of tickets of inter-city trains started yesterday at Chittagong Railway Station ahead of Eid-ul Azha.
Tickets for October 11 were sold out yesterday, said Chittagong Railway Station manager.
Similarly tickets for October 12 will be sold today while tickets for 13, 14 and 15 will be available tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday respectively between 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Two pairs of special trains will run on Chittagong-Chandpur route on October 13, 14 and 15 and also for a week after Eid.
Mob beats 'thief' dead in capital

An alleged thief who broke into a Nakhalpara flat, the residents of which were away at work, in the capital's Tejgaon died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after neighbours caught and beat him yesterday.
A neighbour first locked in Md Ismail, 18, a resident of Mirpur Section-1, on the fourth floor flat of a five storey building when she heard sounds and saw from outside that one room was ransacked, said police.
