Momena's statements not contradictory: Prosecution
Prosecution witness Momena Begum's statements before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 regarding Abdul Quader Mollah's involvement in killing her family in 1971 are not contradictory, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the Supreme Court yesterday.
He was placing arguments on the 14th day of hearing on convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Mollah's appeal seeking acquittal in the case filed for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
The ICT-2 on February 5 jailed Mollah for life after finding him guilty of five wartime criminal offences.
Some Biharis and Pakistani soldiers killed Momena's father Hazrat Ali Lashkar and five members of his family on March 26, 1971 under Mollah's leadership, according to a charge proved before the tribunal.
Entering Hazrat's house that day, accomplices of Quader Mollah killed Hazrat and his wife, daughters and son. However, Hazrat's eldest daughter Momena Begum escaped, according to the charge.
The attorney general yesterday told the apex court that as an eyewitness Momena Begum has given clear cut statements about Quader Mollah's involvement in killing of her family members and the statements cannot be scrapped.
Mahbubey Alam said the ICT-2 has rightly and legally decided to reject a defence petition for further cross examining Momena, as there was no substance in the petition.
Earlier, Quader Mollah's lawyer Abdur Razzaq told the SC that Momena's statements before ICT-2 are contradictory.
The Appellate Division fixed today for further hearing.
