HC asks govt why move should not be called illegal
The High Court yesterday issued a rule directing the government to explain in two weeks why its action to promote 131 doctors to the posts of assistant professor and associate professor, allegedly violating seniority rules, should not be declared illegal.
The court came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed yesterday by 15 doctors, who were deprived of promotion, challenging the legality of the government's action.
Petitioners' counsel Bodruddoza Badal told The Daily Star that the ministry of health on March 30 promoted 60 assistant professors to the post of associate professor and confirmed 71 assistant professors, who were serving on a temporary basis.
The promotion were made on political consideration and violated all relevant rules and procedures, he added.
