Govt doesn't want talks: Moudud
The latest arrest of BNP lawmakers MK Anwar and Barkatullah Bulu proves that the government does not want any dialogue, a party top leader said on Tuesday.
"Arrest of the opposition lawmakers proves that the government has no interest in dialogue. It (the government) has to decide what it wants to do actually," BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed said while participating in a human chain on Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises.
If the government wants to organise a dialogue, they should lift ban on holding rallies and release the leaders including the two lawmakers, said Moudud.
Fourteen BNP lawmakers formed the human chain demanding the release of the two party leaders. The programme continued for an hour since 9.00am.
The opposition lawmakers demanded unconditional release of the two leaders before the upcoming budget session.
Arrest of the two BNP leaders has made the situation complicated for holding the much-expected dialogue between the government and the opposition, they said.
The government have been asking for the dialogue but on other hand they are arresting the opposition leaders, the lawmakers said adding that people will never trust them for playing the double standard game.
Bulu was arrested from the gate of BNP central headquarter at Nayaplatan on May 16 while Mk Anwar was sent to jail after he surrendered before a court on Monday in a case filed allegedly for his derogatory comments against Swechasebak League leader Debashish Biswas.
