Fool's Diner
Don't be fooled by the name. An elusive title that doesn't give anything away, Fool's Diner received a lot of curious enquiries when it first opened. You might just miss it by accident when you are roaming around on Banani Road #11, as it is a small diner situated on a side road.
In the span of a few months, however, it has acquired quite the fan following due to some extremely popular dishes that are also reasonably priced.
Ambience
Here's the thing about rustic décor: you either love it or hate it. I personally love spaces that don't have a lot of bling but opt for an artsy, old school vibe instead. Being a really small place, Fool's Diner also doesn't have a lot of capacity so try making a reservation if you are planning a group outing. This is not a fancy place, but a cosy one.
Food
Fool's Diner focuses on Asian cuisine, namely Chinese, Thai and Japanese. While Chinese and Thai dishes are always a timeless favourite, what really sets Fool's Diner apart is their offering of Japanese cuisine. You can't talk about Fool's Diner and not mention sushi. Sushi has always been a high-end food item only available in the most exclusive of Japanese restaurants of Dhaka. Fool's Diner is here to change that. Their sushi and maki rolls are must-haves, especially because they taste great but don't burn a deep hole in your pocket. One of the refreshing and creative mocktails on the menu can happily accompany your meal.
Value for money
Even a glass of water has a ridiculous markup in a restaurant in the Gulshan-Banani area, but the prices in Fool's Diner are truly fit for a nice meal on a tight budget. You definitely get more than your value for money from the sushi menu; however the other cuisines are good but not that extraordinary.
To sum up…
Fool's Diner is uncomplicated, good food. They don't try to go over the top with décor and size and instead focus on giving you a satisfying meal. You'd be a fool not to try it. Our rating: 3.5/5
