Domestic help torturedto death in Ctg: 4 held
Three members of a family including the housewife and a house tutor, arrested for the reported torturing of a female domestic help to death, were sent to jail custody here in the city yesterday.
They were arrested Sunday on charge of torturing a domestic help identified as Hosnewara, 14.
Hosnewara, 14, from Mymensingh, had been working at the house of one Hazi Saleh Ahmed, at 146, Firingee Bazar under Kotoali thana for the past two months. She had received serious burn-injuries from boiling water on Friday evening and succumbed to her injuries at around 6:00pm Saturday.
The housewife, Anowara Begum, informed Kotoali thana police of the death and claimed that boiling water from washing machine had burnt the girl resulting in death.
But police found torture marks on the victim's body and discrepancies in the statements made by family members.
Police suspected Hosnewara to have been tortured to death and said they were informed five hours after the death.
Police arrested Anowara Begum, her two daughters Ayesha Akter and Parvin Akter and an arabic house tutor Saleh Ahmad. Police had filed a case on Sunday. Anowara's husband, Hazi Saleh Ahmed, and their son currently live in Italy.
