ACC seeks wealth statements of 17 NBR officials over alleged illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked 17 senior officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to submit their wealth statements as part of an investigation into allegations of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain disclosed the information at a press conference held at the commission's headquarters today.

The ACC DG said that in accordance with Section 26(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, and Rule 17 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007, the commission has decided to order these officials to submit statements of their assets and liabilities in the prescribed format.

The 17 officials are: Tax Commissioner (Tax Zone-3) MM Fazlul Haque, Commissioner of Tax Appeal Tribunal Lokman Ahmed, Additional Tax Commissioner of Income Tax Intelligence Unit Sahela Siddique, Additional Tax Commissioner Md Mamun Miah, Additional Commissioner of VAT Intelligence Department Hasan Tariq Rikabdar, Joint Tax Commissioner Monalisa Sahreen Sushmita, Joint Tax Commissioner of Tax Academy Md Morshed Uddin Khan, Additional Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-8 Mirza Ashik Rana, Deputy Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-16 Md Shihabul Islam, Additional Commissioner Abdul Rashid Miah, Commissioner of Railway Customs Md Kamruzzaman, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT (East Zone) Kazi Mohammad Zia Uddin, Additional Commissioner of Customs Sadhan Kumar Kundu, Joint Commissioner of NBR Md. Tariq Hasan, Former Additional Director General of NBR's CIC Md Alamgir Hossain, NBR Member Md Lutful Azim and NBR Member (Income Tax Policy) AKM Badiul Alam.

Akhter Hossain also said that an inquiry revealed these officials possess wealth, either in their own names or in the names of others on their behalf, which is inconsistent with their known legal sources of income. Therefore, the commission has decided to order them to submit detailed statements of their assets and liabilities.
