“Join, choose any ministry,” published on November 25, 2013
Abul Kashem
The unfortunate nation finds it extremely difficult to understand the nature of the present government.

Urging the opposition leader Khaleda Zia to participate in the upcoming general election, she said, “Give names [for cabinet berths]. We are ready to sacrifice anything for the welfare of the country and the people.”
In view of the above, what could BNP do?
BNP could ask for the ministries retained by the PM and make the PM only the titular head of the government.
Abul Kashem
BNP has been demanding a non-partisan neutral government to hold the general election in an impartial manner. Therefore, the only solution is PM's resignation and subsequent formation of a caretaker government.

Is doing party politics in “Gono Bhaban” legal?

This is again an attempt to confuse people. The strength of the PM under current system is absolute and far more authoritarian. The nation needs a free and fair election where the biggest impediment to hold such an election is the PM herself.

Talking about sacrifice, the overstaying government cannot even go back to caretaker government system, which was working very well and is supported by the citizens. How ready the overstaying government is to sacrifice for the country?

Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, how do you justify organising a meeting of Awami League nomination aspirants at Gono Bhaban? How come you are using government-provided residence for the purpose of political activities of your own party? How can we, the citizens of Bangladesh, trust you that you will remain neutral during the upcoming national election as a government head?

Why not sacrifice being the PM?

What difference will it make—supposing that BNP joins the election-time government—when the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina holds the final say to any decision taken by the government? Her hard-line attitude even to this day towards the opposition party with many top leaders still behind bars along with thousands of activists does not speak of her neutrality at all!

It is very easy to be generous knowing it for certain that the opposition leader is least interested in accepting the offer. If her generosity is genuine and sincere, she can offer Khaleda to take the position of prime minister of the all-party government for the election period.
