BGB meets BSF in Rajshahi
Border Guards Bangladesh and Indian Border Security Force held a high-level border conference at Party Point Community Centre in Rajshahi city yesterday.
The BSF's Inspector General (South Bengal) Shantosh Mehera, and Inspector General (North Bengal) Shanjib Krishnan Shudh led a 25-member Indian team.
Rangpur Regional Commander Brig Gen Feroz Rahim and Jessore Regional Commander Brig Gen Robiul Ibne Quamrul led the BGB team.
The two-and-a-half-hours long meeting ended at 5:00pm.
While briefing the reporters after the meeting, Shantosh Mehera said they had talked about several issues including border killings and drug smuggling in the meeting.
“India wants to lower the number of border killings to zero. Both the BSF and BGB have jointly been working in this regard,” said Mehera.
“The incidents of border killings have come down remarkably these days, and we regret the previous incidents. We will remain aware so that such incidents do not repeat”, he added.
Brig Gen Feroz Rahim said the BSF had killed some 14 Bangladeshis in borders in the last six months.
“We expect the number to come down to zero,” he said.
After the conference, officials of the BGB and BSF jointly inaugurated a fountain at the main gate of the BGB Rajshahi sector headquarters.
