BELA hails govt decision

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers' Association (BELA) yesterday hailed the decision adopted by the Ministry of Environment and Forest to provide unleaded fuel for transports to check air pollution, reports BSS.

The note of congratulation also stated that environmentalists of the country have waited for long for a definite directive in pursuance of both the environment and energy policies, said a release of BELA.

The letter further pointed out that the recent decision, once implemented, would realise the long-standing demand of the concerned environmental groups to save people from dangers of air pollution and health hazards.

BELA filed a writ petition with the High Court division of Supreme Court demanding abatement of air pollution from transports through providing lead-free fuel and installing necessary equipment in compliance of legal and policy requirement.
