Prime mover workers' union calls off work abstention

The prime mover workers' union has withdrawn ongoing work abstention this afternoon after 11 hours of their strike following a meeting between the union leaders and senior officials of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
Contacted, Humayun Kabir, executive president of Chattogram District Prime Mover, Trailer, Concrete Mixer, Flatbed, Drum Truck Workers' Union, told The Daily Star at 5:20pm that after a fruitful meeting with senior CMP officials, they decided to withdraw the work abstention as the CMP officials assured to withdraw two policemen involved in assaulting union president Selim Khan and two others on Tuesday.
He said the workers would soon join work to resume container transport to and from Chattogram port, as well as container loading and unloading at the port jetties.
The union leaders sat in a meeting chaired by CMP Additional Commissioner Md Humayun Kabir at the CMP conference room in the afternoon.
The CMP Additional Commissioner Kabir also confirmed that the meeting took place.
Earlier, the union enforced a 12-hour-long work abstention since 6:00am today over alleged police assault on union President Selim Khan and two fellow workers suspending container handling at the port jetties and container transport to and from the port.
