Tk 10 lakh crore siphoned during this govt’s tenure: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam today (November 12, 2022) said this government must resign and form a caretaker government by eliminating constitutional amendment that abolished the caretaker government system.

"At this moment, Sheikh Hasina (prime minister Sheikh Hasina) has to resign, abolish the constitutional amendment and form a caretaker government. That [caretaker] government will form a new Election Commission. The national election will be held under the new commission," Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at the BNP divisional rally at the Abdul Aziz Institution ground in Faridpur this afternoon, reports our Faridpur correspondent.

"We did not expect this Bangladesh where our students earn their livelihood as motorcycle riders and hawkers after completing their studies," said Fakhrul.

"Tk 10 lakh crore was laundered abroad during the tenure of the present government. 42% of the country's population lives below the poverty line. It was said that they (the government) would provide rice at Tk 10 and free fertilizers and people from every home get jobs. But nothing happened of those," he said.

Fakhrul said the government has said that the election will be held as per to the constitution. The caretaker government system now does not exist in the constitution.

The system was in the constitution as BNP passed the Bill amending the constitution by one night, but the Awami League government abolished the provision of caretaker government from the constitution, he added.
