No change in AL's policy on Jamaat: home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said that Awami League's policy regarding Jamaat-e-Islami has not changed.
The home minister was replying to a question after attending a programme at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the capital today
The programme was arranged on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Highway Police.
After more than a decade, Jamaat-e-Islami held a rally in Dhaka yesterday after receiving verbal permission from police.
A large number of Jamaat leaders and activists attended the rally held at the Engineers Institution auditorium in Ramna.
The Jamaat's rally just six months before the national elections has created a discussion in the political arena.
At the end of the programme, journalists asked the home minister whether this can be seen as a change in Awami League's policy on Jamaat.
He said the party was granted verbal permission by the DMP commissioner for an indoor event after being denied arranging a rally in an open arena.
"That does not mean that we changed our position," he said emphasising that there had been no change in the AL policy.
