9 injured as ‘AL men’ attack hartal processions in Mirpur, Mohammadpur
At least nine activists of Bam Gonotantrik Jote, an alliance of left-leaning parties, were injured when supporters of Awami League allegedly attacked their processions in Mirpur and Mohammadpur areas in the capital today.
In Mirpur-10, the leaders and activists brought out a procession around 9:00am in support of the nationwide half-day hartal but supporters of Jubo League and Sramik League attacked them, said Shajedul Haque Rubel, president of Dhaka North City unit of Communist Party (CPB).
Three activists were injured in the attack, claimed the president of CPB, also a member of the alliance.
In Mohammadpur, Awami League men attacked a procession brought out by hartal supporters, leaving six activists injured, Shajedul told The Daily Star.
The hartal was enforced by the left-leaning alliance protesting price hike of the daily essentials across the country.
