Law and order situation satisfactory: home adviser

Adviser to Home Affairs Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today claimed that the country's law and order situation remains satisfactory, though there is room for further improvement.
After a core committee meeting at the home ministry, the adviser asserted that the overall security scenario has improved significantly despite occasional incidents.
"We have been independent for 53 years, yet no media reports have ever highlighted such a strong law and order situation as we have today," he said while addressing reporters at the secretariat.
He further claimed that the authorities are now responding to incidents with unprecedented speed.
"Previously, it would take two days for an incident to reach us. Now, we are informed immediately, allowing us to take swift action. This gives the perception that crimes are increasing, whereas, in reality, the response mechanism has become more effective," he explained.
The home adviser said that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly around the clock.
"Our police force is much more efficient than before. While there is still scope for improvement, their dedication is evident in how quickly they address issues," he added.
Referring to recent operations, Jahangir Alam noted the swift arrests in the Rajshahi incident and the prompt disciplinary action taken against officers who delayed registering cases.
"Unlike in the past, we have ensured accountability at all levels. Several senior police officials have been removed from their positions based on investigative reports," he said.
He also acknowledged the role of investigative journalism in maintaining transparency and urged reporters to continue publishing factual reports.
"During international misinformation campaigns against our country, the media played a crucial role in presenting the truth. This has helped both the government and the people," he said.
As part of the meeting's resolutions, law enforcement agencies were directed to intensify their operations from the evening onwards. Citizens were also encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure continued stability.
