3-day theatre fest at JU honouring Selim Al Deen

The drama and dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University will host a three-day theatre festival from tomorrow on the occasion of the 15th death anniversary of eminent playwright Selim Al Deen.
The festival will be opened tomorrow by placing a floral wreath on the grave of Selim Al Deen, followed by a procession, said a press release from the university's department of drama and dramatics.
JU vice-chancellor Nurul Alam will inaugurate the festival.
The festival will feature a discussion programme, seminar, play, special songs on Selim Al Deen and other programmes.
On the opening day, a seminar titled Shesh Nahi Je will be organised at the seminar room of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium on the campus.
In the evening, renowned singer Fahmida Nabi and the JU drama department students will perform a programme titled "Selim Al Deen-er Gaan".
Besides, the department will stage Yousuf Hasan Arko-directed play titled "Swarnaboyal" at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.
On the second day, the festival will feature the drama department's production titled "Mother Courage and Her Children" at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.
On the concluding day of the festival, Dhaka Theatre will stage its production titled "Nimajjon" at the Muktamancha.
Selim Al-Deen was a playwright and theatre artiste. He was the founder chairperson of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at Jahangirnagar University.
He made significant contribution to Bangla drama. He is also considered one of the pioneers of street theatre in Bangladesh.
He breathed his last on January 14 in 2008 at Labaid Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka.
