112 SPs transferred
In another major development, 112 superintendents of police (SP) have been transferred and given new posts today (August 29, 2022).
With this order, the two biggest transfers and postings have taken place this month for the SP rank officers' posts.
The latest orders, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, show that these SPs were given new posts in different police units including metropolitan areas.
Ministry issued three separate circulars, signed by Deputy Secretary Dhananjoy Kumar Das ordering immediate implementation of the decision.
According to circular details, these SPs will join -- in-service training centres of the different districts, criminal investigation department, special branch, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Anti-Terrorism unit, Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Barishal Metropolitan Police, Armed Police Battalion, Highway police, Tourist Police, Police Bureau of Investigation, Industrial and Range deputy inspector general offices.
Earlier on August 3, in a major reshuffle, 50 superintendents of police have been transferred and given new posts. Forty of them were transferred to as many districts in what officials said was the largest shake-up of SPs in a decade.
On July 13, the home ministry transferred 139 additional DIGs to different units and districts.
According to insiders, a total reshuffle is underway in the police department including the top-tier posts ahead of the national election likely to be held in late December 2023 or early January 2024.
The new faces are expected to come in the inspector general of police, additional inspector general (administration) of Police Headquarters (PHQ), Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) director general and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner as either the retirement age of the incumbent officials in those posts is nearing within a couple of months or they are going to be given new posts.
