Ex-IGP Mainul Islam appointed ambassador

Md Mainul Islam, who was removed from the inspector general of Bangladesh police (IGP) post six days ago, has been made an ambassador.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette, signed by Mohammad Mamun Shibli, senior assistant secretary, over his appointment today.
Mainul was appointed IGP on August 7, after the fall of Hasina-led government. He replaced Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun who was removed in the wake of a complete breakdown of law and order situation across Bangladesh.
Prior to that, Mainul Islam was the commandant of the Traffic and Driving School.
Mainul Islam, 58, began his police career in January 1991. He has also served in police's elite force, Rapid Action Battalion.
