Swechhasebak League leader brutally attacked in Narail

Unidentified criminals cut off a portion of a Swechchhasebak League leader's arm last night in Narail's Lohagara upazila.
The victim is Akbar Hossain alias Lipon, 45, convener of Mallikpur Union Swechchhasebak League, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the capital after being shifted from the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where Akbar was taken following the attack.
Khalid Saifullah, a doctor of the emergency department of Lohagara Upazila Health Complex where Akbar was taken following the attack, said the right arm was amputated entirely below the elbow. Injuries from a sharp weapon were also visible on his right thigh.
OC Nasir Uddin said Akbar had a dispute with former members of Lohagara Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Mallikpur UP, Mostafa Kamal.
Our correspondent could not reach Mostafa Kamal for comments despite several attempts.
The amputated arm has been recovered from the spot. Police of different stations of the district, including Lohagara, have started investigations in the area, said the OC.
Efforts are underway to arrest the attackers, said the OC, adding that no case has been filed yet.
Locals and members of Akbar's family said that around 9:30pm, Akbar was returning home from a tea stall when a group of miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons in front of the Mangalhata Uttarpara Mosque.
