Nine Bede youths beaten with shoes at arbitration

Nine young men of the Bede community were beaten with shoes and fined Tk 200,000 at an arbitration in Lauhajang upazila over allegations that they assaulted two villagers on January 10.

Bede community elder Nazrul Islam said the young men were aged between 17 and 21. "We do not have the money to pay the fine. We would have to borrow. But the arbiters said unless the money is paid, they would not withdraw a case filed against 10 Bede people over the January 10 incident."
