Khaleda has to return to jail for seeking permission to go aboard: Law Minister
Though the law ministry has opined for six months' further extension of suspension of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's jail sentence, Law Minister Anisul Huq today again said she has to return to jail for release and permission to go abroad for treatment.
"Khaleda Zia had applied for release from the prison under section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). But, in that application, she had not applied for permission to go abroad for treatment. The application has already been disposed of after the government has granted her prayer. There is no law to change this decision."
"If she wants to go abroad for treatment now, she has to go back to jail first and then submit a new application seeking release from jail on condition and permission to go abroad," he said.
The minister said this while replying to queries from reporters after attending a function in Dhaka as chief guest.
Bangladesh Law Commission organised the ceremony at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) on the occasion of celebrating its silver jubilee.
Earlier last night, the law minister told The Daily Star that he gave his opinion for six months' further extension of suspension of Khaleda Zia's jail sentence
