Former owner, CEO of E-orange placed on two-day remand
A Dhaka court today placed former owner of E-orange Masukur Rahman and its Chief Executive Officer Md Amanullah Chowdhury on a two-day remand each in a case filed over embezzlement of around Tk 23.25 lakh.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order after Khalid Sheikh, a Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a 10-day remand prayer.
The magistrate also sent Sonia Mehjabin, former owner of E-orange and also wife of Masukur Rahman, to jail after rejecting their bail prayers in the same case.
Sonia is the sister of suspended Inspector Sheikh Sohel Rana of Banani Police Station who was detained by India's Border Security Force on Friday.
In the remand prayer, the IO said both the accused, in collaboration with the other accused, misappropriated Tk 23,25000 from customers. As such they need to be remanded to find out more information.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that advocate Mohammad Nazmul Hassan on August 24 filed a complaint case against six people, including Naznin Akhter Bithi, the fourth wife of Sohel Rana and also the incumbent owner of E-orange, for their alleged involvement with committing such offences.
Kotwali police then registered it as a regular case following a court order on September 1.
Masukur, Sonia and Amanullah were arrested in another case filed with Gulshan Police Station for misappropriating around Tk 11,000 crore from the investors.
