Failing to rape, Sramik League leader stabs minor girl

A Sramik League leader stabbed a 13-year-old girl as she resisted the rape attempt by the man in Bagerhat's Morrelganj upazila early today, said the victim's family members.
Bachchu Mridha, 45, of Moulavi Bazar area of the upazila, is a former president of ward-5 unit of Sramik League in Jeudhra union, reports our Bagerhat correspondent, quoting locals.
He has been absconding since the incident with police trying arrest him.
According to the father, his daughter was alone in the house when Bachchu entered around 2:00am today and tried to rape the girl. As she resisted, Bachchu stabbed her and ran away.
The victim, a class-eight student, is currently undergoing treatment at the Morrelganj Upazila Health Complex.
She suffered critical wounds on parts of her body and was bleeding profusely, said Dr Shahriar Fattah of the health complex. If required, she will be shifted to Khulna.
Morrelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saidur Rahman said police inspected the scene and is trying to arrest Bachchu.
As of filing this report, no case was lodged.
