DMP for cancellation of bail of top offenders amid rise in crime

Amid criminal activities allegedly by several top criminals, who were recently released on bail after long imprisonment, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has announced plans to file applications for the cancellation of the bail.
The DMP high-ups shared the updates at a view-exchange meeting with the newly-elected executive committee of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh today.
SM Sazzat Ali, commissioner of the DMP, said the police are closely monitoring the activities of the top listed criminals including Sanjidul Islam Emon, Abbas Ali alias "Killer Abbas", and Subrata Bain.
"It's unfortunate that these criminals were not rehabilitated despite spending long years in prison. After their release, they resumed extortion and criminal activities as though nothing has changed," said the DMP boss.
SN Md Nazrul Islam, additional commissioner (crime and operations) of DMP, said they are getting different types of reports against the top criminals after they got out on bail.
"We are building cases against the top criminals, and we will write to cancel their bail," he said.
"We've learned that these freed criminals, including Jasim, known as 'Benazir's Cashier,' and others like Subrata, Pichchi Helal, and Emon, are involved in various offences. They are engaging in disputes over establishing dominance and carrying out other criminal activities," he said.
"We're recording evidence, filing cases, and will arrest them when possible. For now, we're applying to revoke their bail," he added.
Nazrul also highlighted the recent reports on these individuals in newspapers, confirming their continued involvement in crime.
After the fall of the Hasina government, several top criminals were granted bail. Most of them had been in prison for over one and a half decades.
Among them, Emon was released on August 15, and Helal on August 16.
