Derogatory remarks on PM: Mohila Dal leader Sonia granted HC bail
The High Court today (October 3, 2022) granted ad-interim bail to Sonia Akhter Smriti, founder president of Rajbari Blood Donors and a member of the district Mohila Dal, in a case filed for making derogatory remark on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a Facebook post.
The HC bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order following a petition filed by Sonia seeking bail in the case.
There is no legal bar for Sonia to get released from jail following the HC bail order, her lawyer Maksud Ullah told The Daily Star.
He said the HC granted bail to Sonia considering her status and also her two minor children.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and lawyer Kayser Kamal appeared for Sonia during the hearing.
On October 5, a local Awami League leader, Shamsul Arefin Chowdhury, lodged a written complaint with Rajbari Sadar Police Station against Sonia for her derogatory Facebook post about the prime minister. The complaint was later recorded as a case.
Police arrested Sonia the same day in connection with the case.
According to the complaint, Sonia had posted the status on Facebook about a month ago.
