ACC challenges HC bail of Chandpur UP chairman Selim Khan in graft case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today (September 18, 2022) submitted a petition to the Appellate Division challenging a High Court order that granted bail to Chandpur's much-talked about union parishad chairman Md Selim Khan in a corruption case.
In the petition, the commission prayed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to stay the HC order of bail saying that there is specific allegation of corruption against Selim Khan and therefore, he is not entitled to get bail in the case, ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
The lawyer also said he will try to move the petition before the chamber judge of the apex court as early as possible.
On September 14, the HC granted four weeks' anticipatory bail to Selim Khan, also an expelled Awami League leader, in a corruption case filed on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 34.53 crore.
The HC, however, ordered Selim Khan to surrender before the trial court concerned in four weeks in connection with the case.
The ACC filed the case with its Dhaka office on August 1 against Selim Khan over his alleged involvement in amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 34.53 crore and concealing information about his assets.
