A seven-year-old child was raped yesterday afternoon in Doani Pittifata village of Hatibandha upazila, Lalmonirhat.

A case was filed with Hatibandha Police Station last night, and the alleged rapist was arrested later that night, confirmed Hatibandha Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudun Nabi.

The arrested is Jahurul Molla Sagar, 22, son of Helal Molla from Ashkar village of Barishal's Agailjhara upazila and works at a local Grameen Phone Tower.

According to the police, the alleged rapist, Jahurul, was visiting the victim's house at Doani Pittifata village when he found the child alone and raped her.

When the child's mother and locals rushed to the scene, the rapist fled. They rescued the child and initially admitted her to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was transferred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for further treatment at midnight.

Samira Hossain Chowdhury, the resident medical officer of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, confirmed that the child is 7-8 years old and was sexually assaulted. She is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is now out of danger.

With the help of locals, police arrested the alleged rapist near the Grameen Phone Tower.

The OC stated that the victim's medical test will be conducted on Friday. Based on the medical report, a charge sheet will be prepared promptly and submitted to the court soon.
