7,713 killed in 6,829 road crashes in 2022

The Road Safety Foundation today said the number of road crashes and deaths had increased last year compared to the previous year (2021).
At least 7,713 people were killed in 6,829 road crashes last year. The number of deaths is 22.74 percent higher and number of accidents is 27.14 percent higher than those of 2021.
Motorcycles were involved in 2,973 road crashes killing 3,091 people, which were 43.53 percent and 40.07 percent higher respectively than the total road crashes and deaths during the previous year (2021), it said.
Prof AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, chairman of the organisation, disclosed the information during a press conference at Dhaka Reporter's Unity.
Earlier, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity and Nirapad Sarak Chai also said the number of road crashes and deaths increased last year compared to 2021.
