10 Shibir men held in capital
Rapid Action Battalion arrested 10 leaders and activists of Jamaat backed Islami Chhatra Shibir in the capital's Jatrabari as they were holding a secret meeting “to plan subversive activities during upcoming agitations and hartals of the party”.
Rab also recovered huge organisational documents, leaflets and jihadi books from their residences in Sutrapur as per the information revealed by the arrestees, said Lt Col Md Imran Ibne A Rouf, director of Rab-10, at a press briefing.
The arrestees include Md Abdul Hamid, 22, president of Sutrapur unit of Shibir, Md Shafiul Alam, 24, the unit's former president, he added.
A team from Rab-10, led by ASP Abdullah Hadi, nabbed the Shibir men around 10:00pm Friday from a community centre where they went to participate in a marriage ceremony of an acquaintance of Hamid, the official said.
