Foreign secy flies to India today
Diplomatic Correspondent

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque leaves for New Delhi, India today on a three-day visit at the invitation of his Indian counterpart.
He will discuss bilateral issues with Indian external affairs minister, national security adviser, foreign secretary, and secretaries to some other key ministries.
Haque is due to return home on March 22, says a release.

 

Power generation sets new record
Unb, Dhaka

The country's power generation yesterday hit 6,801 MW setting a new record against the previous record of 6,675 MW in March last year.
PDB officials said the power generation reached the new level following various steps taken up by the government, including the import of 500 MW from neighbouring India.

 

Free healthcare at BSMMU March 21

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) will provide free healthcare from 9:00am to 1:00pm on March 21 marking the 94th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“If needed, we will extend the time so that none goes unattended,” BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Pran Gopal Datta told a press conference in BSMMU yesterday. He said doctors of 30 departments will work on the day and it planned to make the service an annual event so that other hospitals follow suit.

 

Indian Coast Guard team to visit Ctg

A team of Indian Coast Guard will pay a four-day visit to Chittagong port from March 20 to enhance friendship and bilateral co-operation between the two neighbouring coast guards, says an Indian High Commission press release. The team will conduct an exercise with the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Involvement of all with information and technology is essential for the development of the country, said Post and Telecommunications Minister Latif Siddique at a discussion, organised by Buet, on Monday.
Buet Vice Chancellor Prof SM Nazrul Islam also spoke at the discussion marking the 94th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Marathon contest held in capital

A marathon contest, organised by Big Bangla Run, was held in the capital on Friday.
Titled “Novo Nordisk Dhaka International Half Marathon”, the event starting from before Gulshan Ladies Club ended at Manik Mia Avenue with about 3,000 participants.
The Diabetic Association of Bangladesh President Prof AK Azad Khan was the chief  guest while Novo Nordisk Managing Director Rajen Kumar were special guest.
Actor Ferdous and singer Kona were present as brand ambassadors of Big Bangla Run, says a press release.
