I resigned May 31 (July 20, 2009)
Insists Sohel Taj from US, tells The Daily Star he opted for 'dignity, principles'
I expected a bit more maturity from Mr Taj. He has a good heart and therefore he could have contributed if he remained part of the government. By resigning, he has ganged up with those who can only suggest but have little scope to contribute. Politics is an art of compromise. One must try to see the potential benefits lost due to their action, and not what they can't do due to the failure of the system.

I respect Sohel Taj 's principles and ethics, but the country needs such men to lead us and make the change we are all looking for.
Maashed R. Abdullah
Dignity, Principles & Family Values! I should say that Sohel Taj is a selfish person who ignored the crisis situation in Bangladesh. He should have come back to take over, as Home Minister Sahara Khatun is genuinely sick and needed urgent treatment abroad.
Moin Chowdhury
If he is so much concerned about ethics he should have told everything in public when it all started on 31st May.
Shong
The government should think why the state minister for home resigned. He claimed that he couldn't work in the ministry smoothly.
Hasan Kamrul
It is sad that a good man cannot both remain a good man and in government.
Sadiq Mehdi
Young are the spirit of the nation and we were so ambitious but you proved yourself a feeble hearted man. You do not have the courage to define the details.
M. Mohiuddin
Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our country or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Shakib scripts historic win (July 22, 2009)
I am so fascinated, charmed and delighted to hear about such an amazing victory, Along with all Bangladeshis, I am so much proud and happy with such an unprecedented achievement and I would like to see its continuity in the near future.
Nafiza Nasarullah
Outstanding result. Doesn't matter when, how and in what circumstances, but it was a much needed answer to those so-called cricket critics.
Sayeed
This victory has proved that when we are under proper leadership, we can win. The cricket authorities realised, though very late, that Ashraful, as captain, had a very negative impact on his fellow players because of the way he played, and got away with everything. I condemn those sports journalists who failed to point it out for a long time and preached a very wrong theory that when Ashraful plays well the team wins!
Look at Shakib, how strongly and smartly he dictated the whole match up to the final moment of victory. Retain him as captain and make Mushfiq the vice-captain. Call back Aftab, Alok Kapali. Bangladesh will win many more games!
Asif Nazrul
Congratulations! Job well done. Now keep up the good work.

This is the beginning of turning around. We have to consolidate our position. This team is young and energetic. They should be given the time to establish themselves in the very competitive cricket world.
Saleque Sufi
Superb win, will do a lot to boost the players' confidence which was very low in recent times. But still there is scope for improvement, especially for those who are continuously failing to perform.
Haris
Our cricket needs these Hasans (Shakib and Rokib) --congrats!!
Dr Islam
In Shakib we have a world-class cricketer and the first real Test quality captain. Great innings from him --when the batsmen had basically left him and Rokibul with a sinking ship.
Sami
The victory was sweet and historic. I hope and pray that the success will not be short lived. But handing out the bonus money--I am not satisfied with this given the domestic status quo. The money I believe could alternatively be invested for developing facilities in Bangladesh.
Manhal M Ali
This is not just a win, rather it's an indication of gradual improvement. I, from my heart, congratulate the Tigers for this great victory...
Nurul Hai Jilany
I think it is one of the great achievements of our cricket, but we need to continue this good performance.
Ariful Islam
Shakib and others are far better than Ashraful in every discipline, including game planning and leading the team from the front.
Best wishes for Shakib.
Ahmed Saqqaf
Congratulations Shakib! And also congrats to Bangladesh cricket team.
Ritu
Shakib Al Hasan is the name of energy, hard work and endurance. These are the qualities that a captain should have. So I wish he would be the regular captain of Bangladesh team who can perform and lead the whole team under pressure.
Raihan khandaker
Good results, for sure. But let us not get carried away with this result. We have to remember that this was a severely under-strength West Indies team and any result other than a win would have been considered bad.
