Selim, Shahadat to be quizzed keeping them face to face
Selim alias Saifullah and Abdur Rahim alias Shahadat, two top leaders of Islam O Muslim, a new offshoot of JMB, were taken on remand in Rajshahi and Chapainawab-ganj yesterday.
Selim was placed on a five-day remand by the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Chapainawabganj, while Shahadat on a three-day remand by the Second Judicial Magistrate's Court in Rajshahi, reports our staff correspondent from Rajshahi.
After granting a three-day remand for Shahadad, police took him to Chapainabganj for interrogation.
District Police Superinten-dent Nazrul Islam said the law enforcers will quiz Shahadat and Selim keeping them face-to-face at Chapainwabganj as they are pointing at each other as the chief of the new outfit.
Shahadat and two other militants--Jalal Uddin and Sajedur Rahman-- were produced in the Second Judicial Magistrate's Court in Rajahahi where Jalal, a regional commander of the new offshoot in Bagmara upazia of Rajshahi, gave confessional statement under section 164.
A special intelligence team from Dhaka will also interrogate the two top militants. The team had also interrogated other arrested militants of the new offshoot.
According to our Chapai-nawabganj correspondent, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday placed Selim alias Saifullah, chief military commander of Islam and Muslim, on a five-day remand.
Police produced him in the court, seeking a seven-day remand. After hearing, Chief Judicial Magistrate Basudev Roy granted five days' remand.
Law enforcers arrested Selim after a brief exchange of gunshots at bordering Belpur-Johorpur village under Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj on July 7. They also recovered a pistol, nine bullets, and two magazines from his possession.
