Stocks move on plateau
Dhaka stocks closed flat for a second day yesterday, witnessing some minor ups and downs.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSE General Index (DGEN), fell by only 1.38 points, or 0.05 percent to 2,552.95. The DSE All Share Price Index also declined by 0.3 points, or 0.01 percent to 2,125.2.
The DGEN got an initial boost in the first 60 minutes in trading from the large gains in non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) and IT companies. The NBFIs and IT firms were able to sustain the initial gain throughout the session.
The index then stabilised for about 90 minutes. Beximco stocks dominated the scene during this period.
The index later started to come down, driven by banks and mutual funds. Most other sectors finished marginally down.
The advancers beat the losers 122 to 118. Three securities remained unchanged.
A total of 2,59,79,396 shares worth Tk 418.48 crore changed hands on the premier bourse.
Beximco topped the turnover leaders, with 11,32,700 shares worth Tk 34.97 crore being traded, followed by Summit Power, Titas Gas, Summit Alliance Port, Beximco Pharma, LankaBangla Finance, Bextex, Union Capital, Aftab Automobiles and S Alam Cold Rolled Steels.
Chittagong stocks also closed marginally lower. The CSE Selective Categories Index fell by 16.42 points, or 0.3 percent to 5,433.36. The CSE All Share Index also declined by 11.65 points, or 0.13 percent to 8,385.
A total of 45,08,838 shares worth Tk 41.72 crore changed hands on the port city bourse. Of the traded scrips, 75 advanced, 87 declined and two remained unchanged.
LankaBangla Finance topped the turnover leaders, with 1,54,500 shares worth Tk 3.11 crore being traded. Other turnover leaders were Summit Power, AB Bank, Titas Gas, Desco, Union Capital, AIMS 1st Mutual Fund, Maksons Spinning, BDCOM Online and Grameen Mutual Fund One: Scheme Two.
