Stocks end higher

The Dhaka market ended the week on a higher note with stocks gaining for a fourth day, led by prominent sectors, except for banks.
The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, the DSE General Index, rose by 11.27 points, or 0.44 percent, to 2,550.74. The DSE All Share Price Index also increased 7.45 points, or 0.35 percent, to 2,115.12.
The gaining streak for banks ended as all banks lost yesterday due to a price correction, according to the daily market analysis by Equity Partners Limited (EPL), an investment bank.
The EPL said banks appreciated significantly recently and the investors probably wanted to grab a share of the profits.
Among the most noticeable losers, Prime Bank declined by 5.7 percent, NCC Bank by 5.2 percent and Dhaka Bank by 5.1 percent.
The advancers beat the losers: 144 to 95. Four securities remained unchanged and a total of 2,09,42,556 shares worth Tk 429.44 crore traded on the premier bourse.
ACI topped the turnover leaders, with 9,72,450 shares traded worth Tk 47.34 crore, followed by Titas Gas, Beximco, Summit Power, AB Bank, Uttara Bank, Shinepukur Ceramics, Aftab Automobiles, Power Grid and BD Online.
Chittagong stocks rose only marginally yesterday. The CSE Selective Categories Index gained 10.7 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,262.02. The CSE All Share Price Index increased by 13.6, or 0.16 percent to 8,099.78.
A total of 43,50,037 shares worth Tk 57.80 crore changed hands on the Chittagong Stock Exchange. Of the traded scrips, 95 advanced, 63 declined and one remained unchanged.
Titas Gas topped the turnover leaders on the port city bourse, with 89,900 shares worth Tk 4.51 crore traded. The other turnover leaders were AB Bank, ACI, Shinepukur Ceramics, Beximco, Beximco Synthetics, Eastern Housing, Beximco Pharma, Uttara Bank and Summit Power.
