Biswa Ijtema starts Jan 30
The preparation for the 45th Biswa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregation after hajj, scheduled to start on January 30 has almost been completed.
Biswa Tablig Jamaat organises the annual congregation on the bank of river Turag at Tongi, some 20 km north of the capital.
Around 20,000 to 25,000 volunteers are working to prepare the venue with a huge canopy on 165 acres of land.
Engineering Corps members of Bangladesh Army have set up ten floating bridges over the Turag to facilitate movement of the devotees.
Connections of gas, water and electricity and setting up of sanitary toilets have also been completed.
Home ministry sources said 10,000 police and Rab personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order at the Ijtema ground.
Maulana Giasuddin of Biswa Ijtema arrangement committee said devotees from about 70 countries will participate in the Ijtema.
