Primary teachers demand minimum salary of Tk 8,000
National Primary Teachers' Coordination Council yesterday demanded the government fix a minimum salary of Tk 8,000 for primary school teachers.
The speakers at a meeting at the National Pay Commission office discussed the present pay scale structure of the government and non-government primary teachers.
The organisation submitted a written proposal on a higher pay scale for primary teachers, nationalisation of jobs of the non-government teachers, house rent, medical allowance, festival allowance and their promotion.
The commission chairman assured the teachers of presenting their proposal in the next national pay commission report of 2008 to eliminate their salary discrimination of the government and non-government primary school teachers and their higher pay scale.
Members of the commission M Azizul Haque, Niranjan Mondol, Habibur Rahman, Prof Md Nazrul Islam and teachers' representatives Md Shamsul Alam, Wahiduzzaman Mia, Badrul Alam and Mrigendra Mohon Saha were present at the meeting.
