11 killed in road accidents

At least 11 people were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Habiganj, Munshiganj, Kishoreganj and Panchagarh yesterday.
UNB from Habiganj adds: Five people were killed and 10 others injured when a bus collided with a truck on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Andiura in Madhabpur upazila early yesterday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Local people said the accident occurred when a Sylhet-bound bus from Rangpur hit the truck at about 4:00am, leaving truck driver and four bus passengers dead on the spot. The truck fell into a roadside ditch.
Two of the dead were identified as Din Islam, 45, and Kamal Miah, 43, while identity of others could not be known immediately.
On information, local fire brigade and police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers.
The injured were rushed to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex.
A correspondent from Munshiganj reports: At least four people were killed when a private car collided head on with a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Gajaria area early yesterday.
The dead were identified as private car passengers Billal, 26, Nipu, 24, and Alamgir, 28 and driver Saiful, 27.
Police sergeant Abdus Salam of Bhoberchar police camp said when a Comilla-bound private car from Dhaka collided head on with a truck coming from opposite direction, leaving all the four car passengers dead on the spot.
The truck driver, however, managed escape after the accident.
The bodies were sent to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Salam said the accident might cause due ti reckless driving by the drivers of both the vehicles amid fog.
A correspondent from Kishoreganj adds: One person was crushed under the wheels of his own truck in Sagra area of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam, 40, of Harua in Kishoreganj town.
Locals said the accident took place as Zahid skidded off the truck and fell under its wheels, leaving him dead on the spot.
He was going to Bishwaroad Moor from Kishoreganj town by the sand-laden truck sitting beside the truck driver. He skidded off the truck as the driver had braked the vehicle.
Our correspondent from Panchagarh says: A man was crushed under the wheels of a bus on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh road at Bhashainagar village under Boda upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Tanvirul Islam Labu, 22, son of Fazlul Karim of Panidoba village under Boda upazila and the injured as Atiqur Rahman, 19, of the same village.
Sub-Inspector Sohrab Hossain of Panchagarh Highway Police said the accident occurred at about 11:15am when a Panchagarh-bound bus hit a motorcycle coming from opposite direction, leaving Labu dead on the spot and injuring another.
Locals rushed Atiqur Rahaman to Boda Helth Complex.
