'Raise awareness to stop teasing'
The Child Rights Week-2008 concluded in the city yesterday with an awareness raising debate on 'Rule of law can cure teasing'.
The debate was aimed at raising awareness on the slogan 'Punish the teasers, free the girl children'.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy, National Girl Child Advocacy Forum and Debate for Democracy organised the debate at Shishu Academy in cooperation with Don Forum.
Mohammadpur Preparatory High School participated in the debate in support of the subject matter while Cambrian College opposed it. Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron moderated at the programme.
Vice President of the advocacy forum Prof Latifa Akand presided over the debate where Women and Children Affairs Secretary Rokeya Sultana was present as the chief guest.
Both the teams were declared winners in the debate and all the six participants of the debate were awarded crests and certificates.
Rokeya Sultana said, “Social awareness is necessary to check teasing.” She stressed the need for working on the participatory basis for giving a bar to teasing.
The secretary called on the students to have ambitious dream about life, which will take them to the zenith of their life.
Principal of Notre Dame College Father Benjamin Costa said, “Law is enshrined in the conscience of each human being as the gift of God.”
He called on all to use the conscience in order to free the society from any kind of malpractice. Values of the families play an important role to build good citizens, he added.
Educationists Dr Rawshan Jahan and Dr Meher-E-Khuda, Shishu Academy Director Shaoli Sumon, Don Forum Chairperson Gulshan Ara Chowdhury and Secretary of the advocacy forum Nasima Akter Jolly also spoke.
