Police late last night raided three dormitories of Dhaka University (DU) to drive away outsiders and criminals from campus.
However, they failed to seize anything illegal or arrest anyone raiding Shahidullah Hall, Fazlul Haque Hall and Amar Ekushey Hall.
Campus sources said around 300 policemen launched the raid around 11:45pm and the raid was continuing at the time of filing this report.
DU Proctor Prof AK Firoz Ahmed said, "As several untoward incidents took place on campus in recent times, the Provost Committee of DU took a position that if the police wanted to raid the dorms, they would allow them to do so."
Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, said they raided the dorms after the DU authorities decided to drive off non-students and criminals from the dorms.
