Delwar's son re-arrested
Khandaker Akhter Hamid Paban, younger son of BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, was re-arrested soon after his release from Dhaka Central Jail yesterday morning.
Motijheel police said they arrested Paban around 9:00am on the premises of Abuzar Gifari College at Malibagh on charges of violating Emergency Powers Rules.
Some sources however said he was re-arrested just outside the jail gate.
Paban was later produced before a Dhaka court that ordered sending him to jail.
Contacted, Deputy Inspector General (prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddique said he was released at 8:30am as the High Court had granted him bail.
Earlier on March 31, a Dhaka court sentenced Paban and four accomplices to 17 years' imprisonment each for possessing illegal arms and ammunition.
Five more cases against him on charges of carjacking and earning illegal wealth, and three on extortion charges are under trial at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka.
Paban got bail in all the cases recently.
He was arrested at Mohammadpur in the capital on Oct 30 last year.
