BAU founding anniversary celebration Aug 17-18
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) will celebrate its 48th founding anniversary with a series of programmes on August 17-18, says a press release.
The programmes include exhibition of historical photographs at BAU library, children's painting competition, essay competition for the students, blood group detection programme to be organised by Bandhan, feature exhibition by BAU journalists, colorful rally and tree plantation campaign.
The BAU First Gate will also be inaugurated on the occasion.
The inception of the erstwhile veterinary college in 1957 that later turned into BAU in 18 August 1961, introduced higher agricultural education in the country.
On the recommendation of the Education Commission, which was set up by the then government of Pakistan in 1958, it was decided that two technological universities -- a university of engineering and technology and an agricultural university would be established in each wing (East and West) of Pakistan.
Subsequently a separate recommendation was followed by National Education and the Food and Agricultural Commission in 1959 and the government promulgated its ordinance on August 18, 1961. With the appointment of its first Vice-chancellor Prof MO Ghani, the university formally came into existence on 2 September 1961.
