BNP to announce stance soon
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is likely to spell out soon its position on joining the ongoing political dialogue with the caretaker government.
Senior BNP leaders told UNB last night that they were seeking opinions from leaders of all tiers of the party, including district level leaders and ex-MPs, on the issue of joining the dialogue.
During the exchange of views with them, a consensus is emerging that without the participation of former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in detention, the political dialogue and national election wouldn't be meaningful, the leaders said.
“We will soon make public our party position on the dialogue,” a BNP standing committee member said on condition of anonymity.
Sources said BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami might take a decision keeping in view the stance of another former ruling party, Awami League, which has declined to join the dialogue or the election without party chief Sheikh Hasina's participation.
