SCBA election ends, result today
A two-day voting for electing new leadership of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) ended yesterday peacefully, court sources said.
A total of 1532 voters out of 1779 cast their vote to elect the 14-member executive committee of the SCBA, Nizamul Huq Nasim, election subcommittee convener, disclosed after closing the voting at 5:00pm yesterday. Eighty-six percent voters exercised their franchise, he added.
Outgoing SCBA secretary AM Amin Udin told UNB that the official election results would be announced at its annual general meeting at 4:30pm today.
“Power will be transferred to the newly elected SCBA executive committee following the official results,” he added.
The overdue annual election of SCBA was postponed on March 25, last year, as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner had cancelled its permission given earlier to hold polls under the state of emergency.
Later, it was scheduled for March 24 and again it was deferred to April 28-29 following an understanding between the government and the SCBA.
